Dr. Pedersen is from Richmond, Virginia and earned her undergraduate degree at Towson University in Towson, MD. She then attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, VA. She continued her training at VCU for internal medicine residency followed by clinical infectious diseases fellowship where she was a chief fellow. Lastly, she completed third year of fellowship where she earned her master’s degree in public health with a focus in Epidemiology. She was then inducted into the Delta Omega Honor Society in Public Health.

After fellowship, she joined the division as faculty. She has been the associate program director for the Infectious Diseases fellowship since July of 2024. Dr. Pedersen also serves as the co-medical director of the Unique Pathogens Unit. Finally, she is the regional director the Mid-Atlantic AIDS Education and Training Center site at VCU. Her research and clinical interests are infection prevention, HIV, and general infectious diseases.

Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, exploring museums, and slowly but surely making her way through the best restaurants that Richmond has to offer.
