Welcome from the Program Director

Dr. WickhamWe welcome you to the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship Training Program at Virginia Commonwealth University. Virginia Commonwealth University (The Medical College of Virginia) has a long tradition of clinical excellence. Our health system is a quickly growing, state-of-the art facility, which serves the population from all areas of Virginia. Our accessibility stimulates a fast-paced work environment with an incredibly diverse patient population, including individuals with a wide range of endocrine disorders. Consistent with our mission to provide the best medical care regardless of financial status, we care for more than half of the state’s uninsured patients.

The training program is enhanced by its association with Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center. As part of clinical training at both training locations, fellows have the opportunity to participate in a variety of highly specialized endocrine clinics including comprehensive multidisciplinary programs for patients with diabetes mellitus and obesity as well as clinics focused on nodular thyroid disease, pituitary diseases, metabolic bone disease, and transgender medicine. The Endocrine Division faculty have long been recognized as excellent teachers within the Department of Internal Medicine and faculty at both VCU and the VA Medical Center have received numerous teaching awards.

Our Endocrinology Fellowship training program is committed to supporting trainees' continued growth as a physicians. We foster an educational environment that respects our fellows as learners, recognizing their own particular interests, career aspirations, and needs. VCU offers a collegial environment that recognizes our responsibility to promote one another as members of a team. It is this collegiality that has kept me a part of the VCU Medical Center since 1999.

We hope that you find our site informative and helpful. We are extremely proud of our fellowship program and its graduates. If you have any additional questions about the program, we encourage you to contact us.
