Media N. Ismael, MD is an Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Associate Program Director of Transplant Hepatology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Transplant Hepatology. Dr. Ismael completed her residency and fellowship training at the University of Florida, where she also served as Associate Program Director for the Gastroenterology Fellowship.
Her clinical expertise centers on advanced liver disease, liver transplantation, and complex liver diseases, with a particular focus on the liver–lung axis and genetic causes of liver disease. Dr. Ismael is a dedicated educator and mentor, recognized for excellence in teaching and featured in the University of Florida College of Medicine’s Teachers Who Inspire. Her scholarly work spans rare liver diseases, liver transplantation, and medical education. She currently serves on the ABIM Gastroenterology Item‑Writing Task Force.
