Aamer Syed, MD is Assistant Professor in the division of Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine. His research focus is Critical Care capacity building and delivery of Critical Care in Low and Middle Income. This includes research to improve Critical Care education. His work has been focused in Rwanda. He also coordinates and supports the Clinical Exposure exchange program for the Rwandan physician trainees.

Dr. Syed was awarded in 2019, along with Dr. Hopkinson, the VCU Presidential Research Quest Fund (PeRQ) to study high-dose intravenous vitamin C as an adjunctive treatment in sepsis in Rwanda.
