Welcome from the Program Director
Welcome to the VCU Health Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship program! We are proud to offer a well-established program with comprehensive training aligning with Massey Cancer Center’s mission of focusing on health equality to educate tomorrow’s palliative care leaders. Palliative care has been an integral part of VCU for over 20 years. Our program began as a small consult service and has grown into the dynamic program it is today with the enduring goal of providing the best care possible to patients living with serious illness. As our program has grown our institution has as well offering a wealth of opportunities for care of a wide variety of patients with life limiting illnesses in both the adult and pediatric populations. This growth includes the addition of 2 rural hospitals which are integrated into our clinical programming and serve as a unique educational opportunity for our fellows. Our palliative Project ECHO and other community programs allow our fellows and other team members to link to clinicians all over Virginia who are caring for seriously ill patients and their families for education and networking. In addition to rotations on site at our downtown location and clinics, clinical experiences also include our local VA hospital, Winchester Medical Center Community Palliative Care (an elective rotation), and telemedicine to broaden your knowledge base and awareness of the different facets of our field. Finally, the commitment of our program to quality improvement for the health system we serve will provide ample opportunity to engage and grow skillsets in enhancing processes for better patient care.
