Dr. Shojaee received her medical degree from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. After completing residency training in Internal Medicine at Carilion Clinic in Virginia, she moved to New Hampshire to complete her fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She moved back to Virginia to complete a fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), and remained at VCU as faculty since September 2019. During her first years as Faculty, she completed her Master in Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she primarily focused on statistics and epidemiology. Her research is focused on pleural carcinogenesis, biomarkers of malignant and non-malignant pleural effusion, and lung cancer. She is the primary investigator for a number of clinical and translational research projects and is the founder of the PEAK pleural fluid bio-repository at VCU and works closely with the Molecular Medicine Research Building (MMRB) laboratory and Dr. Nana-Sinkam’s laboratory. Dr. Shojaee is the Recipient of 2018 Chest Foundation Grant in Lung Cancer, an Associate Editor for the Journal of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.
