Michelle was born in Houston, Texas but grew up in Louisiana. A lover of reading and writing, she initially didn’t have the ambition to be a physician. It wasn’t until she completed her degree in Microbiology and was working as a researcher that she realized she didn’t want to just work with bacteria and make agar, but wanted to help people! Michelle applied to medical school to experience the joy of correctly diagnosing and treating patients. Michelle works is part of the hospitalist service at VCU Medical Center, where she has the huge privilege of teaching medical students and residents. She also is one of the Core Educators for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Michelle and her husband welcomed their first child on Halloween 2013. They enjoy travelling, visiting family in Louisiana and Texas. The Brooks family also travels to the Appalachian Mountains and down to the Outer Banks, both of which are in easy driving distance from Richmond.
