Your VCUHS Interview
You will be invited to attend a reception the night before your interview at one of two great restaurants in downtown Richmond- Belle & James and Kabana. You will be able to converse with some of the Internal Medicine faculty and residents. This is also a great opportunity to meet the program director! Details on the reception will be provided to you via email by the program coordinator a week before your scheduled interview.
The interview day will begin at 7:00 AM with meeting your assigned resident ambassador on the ground floor entrance of our Critical Care Hospital (*Link to map?). The resident ambassadors will walk with you to the Office of Educational Affairs where you will receive a welcome and program overview from Dr. John Nestler, Dr. Stephanie Call, and a few of our Associate Program Directors.
At 9:15 AM, applicants will be divided into two groups with Group A interviewing with an Internal Medicine Faculty Member for 45 minutes and Group B participating in a tour of the hospital guided by one of our chief residents. At 10:00 AM groups A & B will switch followed with all applicants joining Morning Report conference at 11:00 AM.
At noon, the applicants will enjoy lunch with some of our current interns followed by a wrap up with the program director. Afterwards, any applicant interested will be provided with a bus tour of downtown Richmond hosted by a couple of chief residents. The bus tour will end with applicants being dropped off either at Hampton Inn or back at VCUHS.
The interview day will conclude ≈ 3:15-3:30 PM.

Resident Ambassador Program
Prior to the interview day, applicants are paired with a current VCUHS resident based on similarities and shared interests (career choices, prior locations, prior education, or hobbies). The resident will contact the applicant prior to the interview day and be in attendance at the reception as a point of contact for the applicant during the interview experience.
The training program has negotiated a reduced rate at the Hampton Inn and Suites in downtown Richmond. While applicants are welcome to make alternative accommodations, the program recommends staying at the preferred hotel facility where shuttle services have been arranged to assist in making your visit to our program as convenient as possible. The night before each interview day, applicants are invited to attend a reception at one of two restaurants located directly in the hotel. Reservations are made by contacting the program coordinator, who will work with the hotel directly in reserving a room.
