Gastroenterology, Advanced Endoscopy, Hepatology and Nutrition Fellowship

Applying

The three-year Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Fellowship is a participant in the NRMP match. All applications will be accepted through ERAS and follow ERAS deadlines.

In addition to three letters of recommendation, please submit a letter/evaluation from your department chair or training program director. Applications for Advanced Endoscopy program (non ACGME-accredited) are accepted through American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy match program (http://www.asgematch.com). Applicants are required to have completed or be enrolled in ACGME accredited Gastroenterology fellowship program.

Applications for Transplant Hepatology Fellowship program (ACGME –accredited) requires submitting your CV and personal statement to fellowship coordinator Lacretia Lewis (lacretia.lewis@vcuhealth.org); cc: Director: Dr. Richard Sterling (richard.sterling@vcuhealth.org). Applicants are required to have completed or be enrolled in ACGME accredited Gastroenterology fellowship program.

Applications for Nutrition/IBD fellowship program (non ACGME-accredited) requires submitting your CV and personal statement to fellowship coordinator Lacretia Lewis (lacretia.lewis@vcuhealth.org); cc: Director: Dr. John Kuemmerle (john.kuemmerle@vcuhealth.org). Applicants are required to have completed or be enrolled in ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency program.

GI Fellowship Application Process for July 2016 Positions

Clinical: Four positions available
Research: One position available

These positions will be part of the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), and will be part of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Our timeline for applications will follow that of ERAS and NRMP.

Application Requirements

  • The minimum requirements for an individual to be considered for the clinical fellowship include:
  • Graduate from a medical school recognized by the ACGME or graduate of foreign medical school who has a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates
  • Proof of passing all parts of the United States Medical Licensing Exam Part I, Part II and Part III
  • Either board certification in internal medicine or proof that the candidate will be board-eligible in internal medicine by the time he/she starts the fellowship
  • U.S. citizen, green card or J-1 visa status only
